“The chase is real” - Dan Lowery wins ring #15 at WSOPC Cherokee

With his 15th win on the World Series of Poker Circuit (WSOPC), Dan Lowery is back up to joint 2nd on the all-time winners’ list - a spot he shares with Joshua Reichard and Maurice Hawkins, close behind Ari Engel in the top spot with 16.

Victory in this week’s WSOPC Cherokee $400 Monster Stack event gave Lowery another $148,416 in winnings, and enough WSOPC rings to wear on three hands. But anyone who thinks this is just about the money clearly hasn’t spoken to him.

With double the winnings of Arkansas’ number two money winner, Lowery is comfortably number one in his home state. But he has designs on claiming the title of undisputed top dog on the WSOP Circuit.

“The chase is real, we’ve been taking it serious,” he told us following his victory on Thursday night. “Josh [Reichard] doesn’t take it seriously because, if he did, he would have 29 rings. Mo [Hawkins] hasn’t been playing as much, but Ari [Engel] is always on the grind.”

A field so big, they ran out of chips

3,577 entrants produced a monster field for this monster stack event, with three starting flights advancing 179 players to the combined Day 2. As Lowery tells us, the field was so huge, they ran out of chips.

Lowery hit Day 2 second in chips with 2.275 million, close behind Todd Staples’ stack of 2.33 million. A strong performance saw him at or near the chip-lead for most of the day, and by the time the final table of 10 was formed Lowery was atop the chip counts with 28.4 million of the 142 million chips in play. Four hours later, he was collecting ring number 15 and posing for his winner’s photo.

“I’m very real with myself about poker, and I feel like I played amazing this week,” Lowery told PokerOrg. “I said a long time ago, some guys said it didn’t matter, but it matters to be number one, one time, so I’m trying. We’ll see who can get there.”

There are eight WSOPC events taking place over the next few months, and only a fool would bet against Lowery, Reichard, Hawkins or Engel adding to their ring tally by the time summer rolls around.

The chase is real, but where it ends is anyone’s guess.
