Two-week series marks the latest chapter in Houston's surging live poker scene
Live tournament poker is a massive hit in Houston, TX, and that probably comes as no surprise to players familiar with the Texas social poker club scene.
The state that gave Texas Hold’em its name plays home to a vibrant live poker economy. Perhaps no Texas city boosts the state’s reputation as a major poker hub quite like Houston, host to several major live tournament festivals over the past several months.
The next big event to grace the Texas poker club scene begins today. The Prime Social Summer Series runs May 20-June 6 at Houston’s Prime Social poker club.
The Prime Social Summer Series brings a $1 million Main Event to Houston for the second time in a five-week span. The series pinnacle event plays out as a $1,100 buy-in tournament, running June 2-6 and promising $1,000,000 in prize money.
That million-dollar prize pool puts the Prime Social Summer Series Main Event in rare company, as it’s only the second $1 million guaranteed prize pool event in Texas poker history.
The first event to claim that title played at Houston’s Champions Social poker club earlier this month. The Lone Star Poker Series ran its own $1 million guaranteed Main Event, dubbed the Inaugural Texas State Main Event.
That tournament proved an emphatic success. All eyes in the poker world focused on the Texas State Main Event, which drew names like Joey Ingram, former WSOP Main Event Champion Greg Raymer, Matt Berkey, and Americas Cardroom Team Pro Chris Moneymaker.
PokerGO provided in-depth streaming coverage of the $1,300 buy-in tournament, and the resulting attendance lived up to the hype. A total of 1,818 entries pushed the final prize pool to $2,090,700, more than double the guarantee.
The Prime Social Summer Series Main Event will have to draw its own massive player pool to surpass the Texas State Main Event in the record books. As the tournaments of the past nine months have proven, however, Houston’s poker clubs are certainly capable of pulling off multiple major festivals per year.

Prime Social Summer Series goes big from the beginning
Players descending on Prime Social for the two-week series don’t have to wait for the Main Event to compete in a big prize pool tournament.
The festival begins with the No-Limit Summer Kickoff, a $360 buy-in tournament with a $200,000 guaranteed prize pool. Attendance for that opening event (May 20-22) could push the prize money well past $200,000, however, and set the tone for what should be another massive Houston poker series.
Other big tournaments on the Prime Social Summer Series schedule include the $600 buy-in No-Limit HTOWN2 (May 27-29, $300,000 guaranteed), and the $1,100 buy-in PLO Championship (May 30-31, $100,000 guaranteed).
The Prime Social Summer Series slate presents 16 total tournaments. The Main Event crowns a champion on Sunday, June 6.
A Player of the Series leaderboard will also apply to the festival, with the top player in the circuit earning a $25,000 bonus.
