Event #49 of the 2021 WSOP is the $10,000 No-Limit 2-7 Lowball Draw Championship. The deuce-to-seven championship started at 3 pm on Monday, October 26. It differs from ace-to-five lowball in that aces play as high, straights and flushes are no good, and a non-flush 2-3-4-5-7 (called “Number One”) is thereby the lowest possible hand.
Daniel Negreanu made his way into the final table for the $10,000 No-Limit 2-7 Lowball Draw Championship but then hit the rail in 8th place. This was Negreanu's second time at a final table in the 2021 World Series of Poker. It was also his fourth top-10 finish and his ninth cash. (If you include online events, you could call this his 12th WSOP cash this series).
Deuce-to-Seven Single Draw is a no-limit five card draw game. In this game, the lowest hand wins. Before the draw there's a single betting round b. There's another single betting round after the draw. This game differs from other A-5 lowball games in that straights and flushes count towards each player's hands. The upshot is that the best hand is 7-5-4-3-2 with at least two suits.
Arizona’s Jim Bechtel set a WSOP record when he won this event in 2019. It had been 27 years since Bechtel won the 1992 WSOP Main Event. With his 2019 triumph, his second career bracelet win, Bechtel bested the 24-year span between bracelets previously held by the late David “Chip” Reese.
