Event #31 of the 2021 WSOP is the $1,500 No-Limit 2-7 Lowball Draw tournament. This three-day event started on October 15 with a starting stack of 25,000 chips. The tournament was played with 60-minute levels from start to finish.
Phil Hellmuth was calm during play in this event, even laughing at times as he fought a long heads-up fight against Jacob Schwartz for his 16th bracelet. His first-place finish gave him that honor, and you might think it would be easy for someone who has been there fifteen times already, but those who know Phil know these bracelets mean the world to him. As soon as the last card fell, Hellmuth jumped out of his chair. He was instantly cheering, hugging friends, and obviously emotional.
Schwartz is a respected player in his own right, who has more than three million dollars in winnings. Still, of all the players in the the final four, he was the only one without a bracelet. He has four 2nd place finishes to his name, and only one win. That came during an $1,100 turbo no-limit holdem event at the Seminole Hard Rock in 2016.
Yuval Bronshtein won the $1,500 No-Limit 2-7 Lowball event in 2019, picking up his first WSOP gold bracelet and the top prize in the tournament of $96,278. In total, the tournament had 296 entries to create a prize pool of $399,600. This was the largest field at this buy-in that this variant of poker had ever received.
