Event #12 of the 2021 WSOP is the $1,500 Limit Hold’em tournament. This three-day event began on October 5. The first day of the tournament ran for 15 40-minute levels before switching to hour-long levels for Day 2 and Day 3. This was a no re-entry event.
Just 20 years ago, all the hold’em cash games were set up with a limit-betting structure. Limit hold’em was also a popular tournament format, even though many players described it as “hours of boredom followed by brief moments of terror.”
The massive poker boom during the early 2000s changed all that, with no-limit hold’em in ascendancy, and limit hold’em taking a back seat. Yuval “Yuvee” Bronshtein took the front seat in this event, adding to his impressive poker chops by winning Event #12 ($1500 Limit Hold’em), landing the first prize of $124,274.
This is Bronshtein’s second WSOP bracelet. In 2012 he ran deep in the WSOP Main Event, taking home $294,601 for a 23rd-place finish. He collected his first WSOP bracelet in the 2019 $1500 no-limit 2-7 lowball draw event.
541 players entered the $1,500 Limit Hold’em tournament in 2019, creating a total prize pool of $730,350. The final table featured three-time WSOP bracelet winner Greg Mueller and six-time bracelet winner Chris Ferguson. David “ODB” Baker went on to win the event to earn his second WSOP bracelet and a first-place prize of $161,139.
