Day 2 of Super High Roller Bowl VI saw the field whittled from the twelve remaining contestants down to just five players.
Three places are paid. All three places will be making at least a min-cash of $1,008,000. Second and first will receive $1,890,000 and $3,402,000 respectively.
On Day 1, nineteen players bought in to the event and ten remained at the end of play.
Negreanu busted in the first blind level, and was followed by players like Adrian Mateos, Stephen Chidwick, Jason Koon, Cary Katz, and Nick Petrangelo.
With late reg open until the start of play on Day 2, two more players joined the field overnight. That meant from a total of 21 entries and a prize pool of $6.3 million, there were twelve players at the start of Day 2.
The Day 2 field of twelve slowly went to work knocking each other down. Jonathan Little went out in 12th from his first Super High Roller Event. He was followed by players like Bryn Kenney, David Peters, Sam Soverel, Jake Schindler, Seth Davies, and Bill Klein who broke the final table bubble.
Addamo busted Klein in a nearly 3 million chip hand that cemented his position at the top of the food chain.
"It’s pretty unreal," Addamo said after the hand went down. “That was a big hand against Bill there, it was a crazy spot. I’m still in a bit of shock."
Down to the final five
The final table of the event will see top players Justin Bonomo, Michael Addamo, Chris Brewer, and Sean Winter, along with one other player remaining to battle it out for one of three paying spots.
Addamo spent Day 2 building up a chip lead, finishing the day with 2.9 million in chips. Behind him in second place was Justin Bonomo with 1,110,000 in chips.
"It’s a good spot for me tomorrow," Addamo said to PokerGO news. "It’s a big min-cash, so that’s going to be tough with all the players, but it should be good. We’ll see how we go."
While he's well ahead of his opponents in chips, that's not the only gamble Addamo has to face.
Some players noted that both the players and the Aria's COVID security were a bit lax. A few more players than usual were wearing masks on account of the company they were forced to keep.
"It blows my mind that I've seen multiple high roller regs in the SHRB wearing their masks below their noses, and the most prominent anti-vaxxer of them all wearing a virtually useless face shield," wrote Mental Health Matt on Twitter after watching the stream.
The anti-vaxxer in question busted in fifth, shortly after final table play began today. We will have a full final table report once the day's play wraps up.
