Live event plays out in Sioux Falls, South Dakota area Jan. 22-24
The originally postponed Mid States Poker Tour Grand Falls Main Event finally plays out this weekend. Grand Falls Casino in Larchwood, IA hosts the second live MSPT event of 2021, and the tournament will likely draw significant interest from live poker players across the U.S.
The MSPT Grand Falls event plays out from Jan. 22-24. Larchwood, IA, just outside of the Sioux Falls, SD area, plays host to the event, which marks the second live stop for Season 12 of the MSPT.
On tap for this weekend is the MSPT Grand Falls Main Event, which comes at an $1,100 buy-in and guarantees $200,000. This event was originally slated to run in December 2020 but was postponed due to a COVID-19 emergency order issued by Iowa lawmakers.
The tournament is back on the schedule, however. If the previous MSPT stop at Grand Falls Casino offers any indication, attendance records could fall and the final prize pool could go well past the $200,000 promised prize money.
Registrarion and tournament structure
Satellites to the $1,100 Main Event are already in progress. The $250 qualifiers play out in the Grand Falls Casino poker room throughout this week, with the last chance to qualify for Day 1A beginning at 10 am local time on Friday, Jan. 22.
The Main Event kicks off at 3 pm Friday and will commence from the casino’s Event Center. The tournament features a pair of Day 1 flights, with Day 1B starting at 3 pm Saturday.
The final satellite qualifier commences at 10 am Saturday, giving players a final chance to spin up a $250 entry into a Day 1B Main Event seat.
Both Day 1 flights feed into Day 2, which begins at 11 am on Sunday, Jan. 24. The tournament will play down to a champion from there.
Satellite registration is available on-site at the Grand Falls Casino poker room, while entry to the Main Event can be completed inside the Event Center.
The last time the MSPT stopped at Grand Falls Casino, the tournament broke state attendance records for a live poker tournament. A total of 518 entries pushed the final prize pool to $500,960.
The 518 entries broke the record for the largest poker tournament ever held at Grand Falls Casino, as well as setting a new attendance mark for any poker tournament ever held in Iowa.
Mark Collins took down the win at the tournament, which played out Aug. 28-30 of last year. Collins took home a $107,706 payday with the win.
