This hand occurred during the 2024 WPT World Championship Event at the Wynn Casino in Las Vegas on December 21 between Eddie Pak and Anže Šmajd.
Watch the video above now to hear Pak talk through his strategy as the hand plays out.
At the feature table were eight players, two away from the official final table of six. The WPT Championship was a $10,000 entry event with 2,392 runners playing for a first prize of $3,100,000.
Pak was the far-and-away chip leader at the table, sitting on a stack of 75,600,000, or 95 big blinds. The blinds were 400,000/800,000 with a big blind ante of 800,000. Šmajd's stack was 25,200,000, or 32 big blinds.
Pak is UTG+2, holding and pretty much opening any two cards as he was sitting on more than double the player's stack in second place, Christian Roberts.
Deep run in the 2024 WSOP Main Event
Eddie Pak is a part-time tournament professional who dives into big events when his job at Netflix allows.
He first impressed the media and the players when he rode aggression and good timing to a 47th-place finish at the 2024 WSOP Main Event for $200,000.
“I made it to day seven in the Main and finished 47th.” shared Pak. “It was a lot of fun. It was a very, very tough field. I learned so much during that tournament and that run, mainly regarding playing with short stacks and taking advantage of the long structure during that event."
WPT Championship
“The World Championship levels were 90 minutes, which seemed like infinity. There was so much time to maneuver and stay patient.
"The deep run at the WSOP gave me so much confidence to go into this WPT event. I knew I could make another deep finish and learn from my mistakes from the previous run, which I did.”
Goals for 2025
“If you look up my Hendon Mob, you can probably see that I don't have a first-place finish in my career. I've made a lot of final tables and come very, very close. But I haven't been able to close an event out yet.
"My goal for 2025 is to put in more volume, play a full summer at the WSOP, and continue to make deep runs in these prestigious events. Hopefully, I’ll take down a title and add it to the trophy case this year."
