It's been 20 years since Chris Moneymaker changed the course of poker history forever when he won the World Series of Poker Main Event. Now, he looks to continue making waves by bringing his own poker tour to us. Moneymaker is taking his new "Moneymaker Tour" on the road, and he's found his first stop. The inaugural event is hosted by the Palm Beach Kennel Club (PBMC) from May 10-24, 2023.
The two-week event will feature 20 tournaments and more than $1 million in guarantees. Buy-ins will cater to a wide variety of players at price points from $86 to $2,500. Only a couple of months away from their first event, everyone involved is excited about the launch.
"We are very excited to be hosting the inaugural Moneymaker Tour to the poker room at PBKC," said Poker Room Director and Asst. General Manager Noah Carbone. "It's going to be an amazing event featuring our largest buy-in event ever. This event will bring people to us from all over the country who haven't experienced this facility before, and many are first-time visitors to beautiful Palm Beach County."
Opening and Main Event information
With 20 events promised, we can already share details about two marquee events. The opening event will feature six starting flights and run from May 10 through May 13. It boasts a $250,000 guarantee with a $500 buy-in. The Moneymaker Main Event will have three starting flights and run from May 18 through May 24. That one features a $500,000 guarantee and a $2,500 buy-in. The final table will be live-streamed to bring the culmination of the first stop on the tour to an online audience.
It's a good time to be a poker player. With tours traversing the globe, live streams more available than ever, and record-breaking fields turning up at many events, poker is booming. We owe much of that success to the "Moneymaker effect" from 20 years ago. Now, there's space for one more tour on our tournament calendar, and it starts in Palm Beach in May. See you there, Chris.
