Three-time WSOP bracelet winner Yan Shing 'Anson' Tsang has nearly $4 million in lifetime earnings, but on Tuesday he ran into his fiercest opponent yet: his alarm clock.
Tsang, who bagged a healthy stack of 257,000 chips for Day 2 of the $1,500 Six Max at the 2024 WSOP, woke up nearly two hours late and got to his table with just 7,000 chips left—only to bust on the first hand back.
“I set my alarm for around 10, or 10:30. I set three alarms, actually," Tsang told PokerOrg later that evening at the WSOP.
"I missed my alarms. I overslept by about two hours, and when I woke up, it was about 1pm. I rushed to the table from my room, and I was happy to see that I was still alive, but I had only about 7,000 chips—about half of a big blind."
Tsang was set to start the day with 26 big blinds — plenty of ammo for the three-time WSOP champion. And no, it wasn't an AM/PM thing. He woke up at 7am, went back to sleep, and slept through all the noise.
"This was the first time this has happened in my poker career, in the 15 years that I have been playing poker professionally. I woke up, saw the time, and said, ‘Oh my God, it’s 1pm!’ and I just ran down to the table, hoping to still have a stack. I made a couple of pay jumps, so it’s not all bad."
Shortly afterward, Tsang jumped in the $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better tournament in the Paris Ballroom to play for his fifth cash in seven tries at the 2024 WSOP. The Hong Kong native is still trying to win his first WSOP bracelet in Las Vegas after two wins in Europe and one on GGPoker.
