Kasey Lyn Mills is a pro mom, poker commentator, and pro poker player with two WSOP Circuit rings and close to $500,000 in tournament winnings.
What was the best part of 2024 for you in poker?
The best part of this year was winning two WSOP Circuit rings back-to-back. I felt like I etched my name in the poker world for the year and made history for women in poker. Then poker just kept getting better and better as the year went on.
What was the most challenging part of 2024 for you?
I definitely bricked out in some bigger events later in the year. I also had a few bad cash sessions. But it's all part of the game that I love. I just worked harder, focused more, and kept my mindset strong.
I had a deep run and cashed in the WPT Main Event at the Wynn. I’m happy with the way I played there.
You have a picture of your son on a coin at the table as your card protector. Please share what this means to you.
My son is my motivation and my inspiration. I've said this before, but everything I do is to make our lives together better. I came from very little means and have a big heart. I've never been overly focused on money in my life. But money can help my son and me live a healthy, abundant life. When I look at that card protector with his face every time I play, it reminds me to stay focused on my goals and play my best.
What have you seen this past year regarding the growth of more women in the game and crushing some huge events?
It's fun to see. I have been saying all year that this is the year of the women. We saw big wins from Jessica Vierling, Christina ‘Baby Shark’ Gollins, and Cherish Andrews. It was also a big year for Kristen Foxen and Maria Ho. I see the ladies winning everywhere.
It's been incredible. We are charging forward. And more and more women are seeing it and realizing this isn't just a man's game. Poker is a brain game, and we have an amazing brain.
What are your plans and goals for next year?
My first goal is to take my son back on a vacation trip. I always take my son on a vacation after I make a good score. After that, I don't have any real money goals that I set. But I have health and physical fitness goals, which I know will help propel me to win.
You’ve shared your daily affirmations and daily mindset work in the past on your socials. Do you have any advice for women just beginning to learn the game?
It's mostly about not being intimidated at the tables. You don’t have to grind sims 10-12 hours daily to succeed. Do a little bit each day. Study GTO, but you don’t have to be a bot. Do small amounts of study consistently. It's going to bring more confidence to your game. Be yourself at the tables and play your game. Know your talents, and don't try to be like anybody else.
