Heads-up poker matches dominate this week's Poker Twitter discussions
Nothing catches the true pulse of the poker world quite like Poker Twitter. Many of the game’s most influential figures use Twitter as an opinion outlet for all things poker and often expand into topics well outside of that scope.
Here’s a look at some of the best tweets from the poker community for Feb. 8-14:
Ingram makes the semifinals in heads-up “Two-card PLO” tournament
Bally’s Las Vegas ran a $400 No-Limit Hold’em Heads-Up event this week, and the live tournament drew the interest of one of poker’s most prolific content creators.
Joey Ingram ran to the series semifinals and headed back to Bally’s to try to finish the deal on Friday. The well-known advocate for the “great game of Pot-Limit Omaha” made a rare appearance in a live Texas Hold’em tournament, winning three matches to clinch a semifinals berth.
Ingram posted a thankful tweet in the aftermath of the successful Texas Hold’em outing.
“We made the final 4 of this heads up 2 card PLO tournament and come back tomorrow to play the rest,” Ingram tweeted. “I won my first 3 matches. Got to meet a few people from my community in real life, very fun and I didn’t die which is nice. Always a little worried.”

Landon Tice looks ahead to heads-up match against Bill Perkins
The rapid rise of 21-year-old phenom Landon Tice now leads to a heads-up poker match against billionaire recreational player Bill Perkins. The significance of that opportunity isn’t lost on Tice.
“To be completely honest, the fact that I'm even able to play for literally millions of dollars is unreal, and I can't truly express how insane of an opportunity it is,” Tice tweeted Wednesday.
That tweet prompted a discussion on how much of Tice’s own money is going into the challenge against Perkins. Tice’s currently pinned tweet shed some light on that question.
“Let me make something clear that I'm sure everyone cares about regarding my challenge with @bp22,” Tice tweeted. “I'm selling a lot of action for it. A lot. I'm not rolled to battle at nosebleeds. However, I am putting a very large amount of my relative net worth on myself winning it.”
Hellmuth vs. Negreanu dream match?
As reported on Poker.org Thursday, a clip from No Gamble No Future on the PokerGO YouTube channel featured Phill Hellmuth expressing disappointment in Daniel Negreanu’s performance against Doug Polk in the recently-completed High Stakes Feud heads-up match.
Hellmuth bet on his longtime friend Negreanu to win the match and criticized Negreanu’s play in the video clip. That commentary prompted Negreanu to propose another heads-up poker match, this time against Hellmuth.
“Yo @phil_hellmuth you said you watched “zero” of the match but seem to have strong opinions on the play,” Negreanu tweeted. “I’ll play you a heads up match live, online, at any stakes you feel comfortable with for as many hands as you would like. Wanna play big guy?”
Would a heads-up match between Negreanu and Hellmuth generate the same enthusiasm in the poker community as Negreanu vs. Polk? Hopefully we’ll get to find out soon.
