Getting to the sharp end of a showcase tournament, you’re likely to come across at least a few big names with reputations to match. Spare a thought, then, for ‘forzaitalia’, playing from Slovenia, who reached the climax of GGPoker’s WSOP Online $25K GGMillion$ Super High Roller Championship.
When ‘forzaitalia’ (believed to be the screen name of Italy’s Francesco Garofalo) reached the final dozen of the tourney he had, among others, the following for company: Chris Brewer, Christoph Vogelsang, Ole Schemion, Adrian Mateos, Bryn Kenney, Patrick Leonard, Dimitar Danchev and Roman Hrabec.
Those eight players alone have combined live tournament earnings of over $215M, not to mention healthy online results. The player known as ‘forzaitalia’ was not to be deterred, however, and ended up topping the daunting field to take first place and the $1,112,201 up top.
Super high rollers build $5.6M prize pool
230 entries put up the $25K apiece to contest this bracelet event, creating a healthy prizepool of $5,635,000. Among them was GGPoker ambassador Daniel Negreanu, who streamed his play from Canada but busted out shortly after the late registration period ended. You can watch his full run below.
Among those making deep runs and ending up in the money, but falling short of the final table, were Michael Jozoff (19th, $63K), Matthias Eibinger (18th, $63K), David Peters (17th, $71K) and Christoph Vogelsang (11th, $92K).
Reaching three-handed play with the big money on the line, ‘forzaitalia’ needed to best two of the game’s biggest winners in Bryn Kenney and Chris Brewer. Both the Americans occupy places at or near the top of the all-time money list, but couldn’t claim the bracelet on this occasion.
Each player at the final table banked a six-figure payout, but it was ‘forzaitalia’ who won the $1M+, the plaudits and the title of Super High Roller Champion.
