On Wednesday evening, the latest installment of Cash of the Titans II aired on PokerGO's No Gamble, No Future. Following his dominant performance on Day 1, Sean Perry continued to not only play well, but also run hot as Day 2 action continued.
Perry's play on Day 1 saw him lay claim to the $75,000 bonus prize for the day's biggest winner, adding a sizable chunk to his profits. On Day 2, Perry kept at it and started strong in the race for the second $75,000 bonus prize. As he explained on tonight's episode, however, Perry had his eyes on the larger prize.
In a cutaway interview, Perry told PokerGO's Natalie Bode, "Today's side pot is only $75,000, but tomorrow's is $200,000 and it's overall for the three days of us playing. I'm trying to make sure I maintain my lead and hopefully, I can win the overall prize tomorrow, it would be nicer than the $75,000 today."
Young can't catch a break
Despite facing numerous tough spots on Day 1, Justin Young managed to keep himself afloat without having to reach for his $100,000 add-on. The start of Day 2 saw Young bounce back in a major way as he crossed into the profit realm and in the lead for the $75,000 bonus prize. His momentum stalled, however, as he ran into the buzzsaw of Mike Volfson's pocket aces in the early goings of the episode.
Volfson kicked off the action with a raise to $1,100, holding . The hand took a turn when Kristen Foxen stepped slightly out of line and opted to three-bet her to $3,300 before action folded to Young in the small blind. Looking down at , Young came in for a four-bet, bumping up the price of poker to $14,000. Volfson debated his options for a moment, but decided on a flat call.
With $32,100 in the middle, the dealer spread the flop to leave both players with overpairs to the board. Young eyed up his opponent's remaining chips as he considered his bet-sizing before opting for the overbet all-in, which Volfson snap-called.
Having already used his singular $100,000 add-on, Volfson was at risk of elimination from Cash of the Titans II, but his hand was best and all he had to do was fade two outs twice to scoop the $151,700 pot. The turn brought a momentary sweat as the sight of any paint card sent shivers down Volfson's spine. The river brought another shiver, but then a sigh of relief as Volfson survived the runout.
Perry loses his shirt while he forces Young to add on
The hand of the night started, unsurprisingly, with the straddle. After a seat redraw and blind increase, the players were still getting comfortable with their new neighbors as Young threw out the $1,200 straddle during a round of the standup game. Stanley Choi came in for a raise to $4,000 with and Perry flatted behind with before the action folded to Young in the straddle. With , Young called the raise to send the three players to the flop.
With his pair and gutshot straight draw, Choi continued for $6,000 and Perry flatted behind once again. Young, however, wanted to play for more and moved all-in for his remaining $60,300. Choi used a time bank as he thought through his options before eventually pitching his cards back to the dealer. Now, with the action on him, Perry opened the dialogue.
"It's such an interesting spot, with the dynamic of the $200,000 in play," opined Perry.
"Oh. I was very concerned about that as well," responded Young, drawing laughs from the table.
From the commentary booth, Brent Hanks added a wrinkle to the situation when he chimed in with, "I think they've got a shirts-off bet as well."
After a few more seconds, Perry placed a stack of chips across the betting line for a call and turned over his hand. With $140,100 in the middle, Young needed to get lucky to avoid having to deploy his $100,000 add-on. As the players awaited the turn card, the details of the shirts-off bet became clear.
"Oh, man. Does that mean I have to run around shirtless here soon if I stack you?" asked Perry.
"I believe that was the deal," confirmed Young.
Hanks came back with, "For the sake of all of our eyes at home, please hit an 8 or 3, Justin."
The turn saw Choi smack his hands together in frustration, as he would have turned a straight, and added outs to Young's holding. The river wasn't the card he needed, however, and Young was forced to reach for his $100,000 add-on. Perry, meanwhile, let out a "Hoorah, baby!" and proceeded to pull off his sweatshirt and t-shirt before taking a topless victory lap – stopping only to embrace Young as he circled the table.
