Resorts World Vegas has big plans for its opening on Thursday, June 24, 2021.
Resorts World Vegas is the first new Integrated Resort on the strip in about a decade. As such, its first day of business will be an exciting moment. When all the signs light up on the building's huge LED displays, a permanent new fixture will join the wall of lights and glass that is the skyline of Paradise, Nevada.
The Thursday, June 24, 2021 date still depends on things like COVID restrictions and state mandates. But if the Nevada Gaming Control Board doesn't flip-flop, Resorts World will be joining the big time before the 4th of July weekend.
And so far, things are looking good. The mask mandates are lifted across the state. The casino has taken up vaccinations at higher rates than most other industries in the country. Casinos are open at 100% capacity. In general, Nevada is following the general pattern of slow reopening that seems to mark the more successful states.
So, Resorts World looks on track for a good summer.
No business like show business
So far, most of the details we have about the launch relate to the lineup in The Theatre. The Theatre is Resorts World's concert hall.
Early rumors suggested a shortlist of Celine Dion, Katie Perry, Luke Bryan, Miley Cyrus, and Carrie Underwood as possible resident artistes. It appears Resorts World couldn't make up its mind who to sign, so all five of these players will be doing shows and/or mini-residencies at The Theatre in the first few months after the IR opens.
Celine is opening her new show "Celine" on November 5. Carrie Underwood's show "Reflection – The Las Vegas Residency" will start up on Dec 1. Perry launches "Play" on December 9. And Luke Bryan will be hitting the stage in "Vegas" on Feb 22 of next year.
Behind the scenes photos show Perry in a mermaid outfit, suggesting an underwater theme for her show. "A tuna behind the scenes of our very soFISHticated @ResortsWorldLV splash," tweeted the star.
Resorts World's ticketing platform is up and running on the resort's website for anyone looking to see Perry get wet.
But what about the poker room?
While the advertising is particularly hot on the stage shows, the resort does have all the usual bells and whistles too.
So far the only details regarding the poker room are a single line of ad-copy and a low-res thumbnail photograph on the website. The photo shows tan baizes, some very comfy-looking chairs, and some unusual table markings. The copy reads: "For individual games and tournament play, the poker room offers an elevated and technologically advanced gaming experience."
If the picture is genuinely representative, it looks like the poker room will seat at least 80 poker players at ten to fifteen tables.
We will have more details on this aspect of the resort as soon as the company's public relations department spills the beans on Resorts World's poker offerings. It will be good to see what stakes they're spreading, how many tables, and what games.
The non-poker gaming options look varied. The London casino Crockfords will be providing the high roller/VIP casino and lounge facilities. Meanwhile, the proles will have the run of the 117,000 square feet of table games and slots.
Hotel rooms are available for booking. So if you want to be one of the first in, you might want to move fast. You can also sign up for your Genting rewards card on the resort's website. That is assuming you don't already have one from your time in London or Singapore.
The resort will sport an Asian-themed "dayclub" called Ayu and a high-tech nightclub called Zouk. There will be plenty of restaurants on-site and a shopping center sporting a Kardashian-themed fashion store as well as a whole bunch of designer brands.
Most importantly for poker players this summer, the new Casino is a seven minute taxi ride away from the Rio All Suite and the WSOP.
