The 888poker LIVE Bucharest Main Event title has gone to Razvan Morar, who scooped the €37,000 top prize after qualifying for just $55 online.
Morar was one of 406 entries to the €560 buy-in tournament held in the 888 Poker Room Bucharest. Among the hopefuls were 888poker Stream Team pro Andrei Cosmin, as well as site ambassadors Ian Simpson, Vivian Saliba and Lucia Navarro.
None of these four made the paid spots, however, as a swathe of local players took the chance to shine, with WSOP bracelet winner Sergiu Covrig among them. He finished 39th for €1,110.
Deep into Day 3 and England’s Jack Sharpe was one of the last non-Romanians to fall. The short-stacked online qualifier was forced to take a chance with his final 2bbs with J-T only to run into Florin Elisei's A-J. It was unlucky for him, but 13th was good for a €3,100 cash.
I want Morar
Elisei went on a final table tear, cracking Dan Galinschi’s kings and then finding a way through Greece’s overnight chip leader Konstantinos Vatseris’ big slick.
That left just five and a guaranteed five-figure cash, and it was time for Morar to make his move, doubling twice then watching on in glee as flopped quads accounted for one of his rivals
Then a small blind squeeze from Alexandru Lupuleac backfired. He ran into Morar’s suited big slick, and when Elisei disposed of Andrei Miron in third place, it was heads-up for the title.
Elisei’s 3:1 chip lead held for a while, until another A-K for Morar evened the stacks. After this there was no stopping Morar. Fittingly, it was yet another big slick that ended the battle.
A button open from Morar with A♣K♦️️ was called by Elisei who had Q♦️️4♦️️.
The 6♦️️A♦️️9♣ flop gave Elisei enough to shove. A quick call and two bricks were enough to give Morar the win.
