The PokerStars’ Shamrock Showdown — a six-team contest at the upcoming Irish Poker Open (IPO) — is about to get started, and with just days to go until action in Dublin kicks off there’s an opportunity for those at home to win a share of $2,000 in tickets to the Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP).

Running from April 10-21, the IPO will play host to thousands of players from across the globe, as well as six teams led by PokerStars ambassadors Ben ‘Spraggy’ Spragg, Fintan Hand, Lasse Jagd ‘Wistern’ Lauritsen, Felix Schneiders, Marle Spragg and Parker ‘Tonkaaaap’ Talbot — pictured above receiving his trophy from Spraggy at last year's event.

Each team captain has recruited various players through their livestreams and social media, giving away Emerald Passes to join them in the IPO Main Event, and more. Once in Dublin they’ll be competing both in poker tournaments and some surprise off-the-felt challenges, accruing points for their teams as they go.

Want in? Captains will be drafting some last-minute additions to their teams at the event itself, giving those present at the IPO the chance to join the likes of Niall Farrell, Caitlin Comeskey, David Docherty and Georgina ‘GJ Reggie’ James as team members for this unusual contest.

But there’s also an opportunity for players in PokerStars’ global markets to get in on the action and win some tickets for the upcoming SCOOP series in the process.

Oh captains, my captains... Challenges are expected to include karaoke and fancy dress. It's about to get weird.

$2K in SCOOP tickets to be won

Six all-in shootout (AIS) tournaments will be scheduled, one for each team, with access to each shared by the team captains through their social media channels and Twitch streams (for example, Spraggy shared his yesterday on Twitch). Once they have the passwords, players can register for the AIS for the team they think will win.

All-in shootouts are special tournaments where all players are automatically all-in on every hand until a winner is reached, and don’t require any play — or even for a player to be logged in to PokerStars at the time — to take down the top prize, which in this case is a SCOOP ticket worth $320.

Once a team has won the Shamrock Showdown, the AIS for that team’s captain will take place, with prizes awarded as follows:

  • 1st: $320 SCOOP ticket
  • 2nd-3rd: $215 SCOOP tickets
  • 4th-6th: $109 SCOOP tickets
  • 7th-11th: $55 SCOOP tickets
  • 12th-21st: $33 SCOOP tickets
  • 22nd-31st: $22 SCOOP tickets
  • 32nd-41st: $11 SCOOP tickets

Backed the wrong team? You’re out of luck — only one AIS will run, and only for those who picked the winning team, so choose wisely!
