The Women in Poker Hall of Fame (WiPHoF) has announced the opening of its 2024 induction process, starting with its traditional call for nominations from the poker public. From now through September 23, visitors to WiPHoF's online nomination page may submit the names of up to three women who they believe should be enshrined in the hall.
The two-week public nomination window will be followed by a vetting period when eligibility is verified for the top nominees. Once the finalists are named in early October, the voting process for enshrinement begins. Voting is limited to living WiPHoF members and a select panel of poker-industry media. Similar to the Poker Hall of Fame, each voter receives a bloc of 10 votes that can be distributed among one or several finalists.
Once voting has concluded, the 2024 honorees will be announced, then feted at a luncheon in December in Las Vegas.
Nomination requirements
Any member of the public is welcome to submit nominations, and a name and valid email address is required. The WiPHoF lists these as the requirements for nominees to receive further consideration:
- A candidate must have been active as a player or industry leader for a minimum of 10 years prior to election and 35 yrs of age or older.
- Player/industry leader must have contributed to the world of poker in some significant way. This person can qualify by either winning major poker tournaments, or by making significant contributions to the industry of poker.
- Player/industry leader must be a proponent of women in poker. All nominees must be approved by a committee of the Board of Directors and Inductees.
- Nominees must agree to terms & conditions of the Women in Poker Hall of Fame.
Three finalists return from 2022 enshrinement cycle
Leading the list of a large field eligible for consideration are three finalists from the last WiPHoF induction cycle, in 2022. Liv Boeree, Kristen Bicknell Foxen, and Kara Scott highlight the list of women likely to return as finalists for 2024.
That year, four other prominent women in poker were selected as honorees: Angelica Hael, Terry King, Vanessa Selbst, and Jennifer Tilly. Those four brought the total number of women honored by the WiPHoF to 25. The WiPHoF itself dates to 2008, when it was created to honor the contributions made to the game by women in poker.
