The countdown to the 2024 World Series of Poker is on. Each day until the start of the series on May 28, we'll bring you tips and insider info from some of the biggest names in the game.
Matt Glantz is a derivatives trader, a former pro poker player, and founding member of TeamLucky. Glantz pulled the first-ever $1 million mystery bounty prize at the 2022 WSOP. Another member of TeamLucky, Dan Weinman, won the Main Event last year. You can follow Matt on X/Twitter.
What tips have you got for players heading to the WSOP?
The most important preparation for players heading to the WSOP is to make sure they are properly bankrolled for the events they plan on playing. Nothing else matters if you aren't properly bankrolled. Your head won't be fully into the game at hand, and your level of stress will surely hurt your performance.
What is your favorite WSOP event?
The Mystery Bounty is by far my favorite event. It's not hard to figure out why. I pulled the first-ever $1,000,000 bounty at the WSOP in the summer of 2022. It felt like I won the lottery.
Help the rest of us! How do we do that?
My main advice is to win as many bounties as possible. Take chances you wouldn't normally take. You've got to grab those bounties. I had eight pulls the year I won the $1M. Last year, I had four pulls, but I couldn't repeat. I plan on busting a lot of you this summer and grabbing a dozen bounties to give me a real shot at the $1M again.
What's your favorite moment from the WSOP?
My favorite moment was last summer when Dan Weinman won the WSOP Main Event. Anytime a member of TeamLucky (Deeb, Arieh, Weinman, Glantz) wins it's a great thrill, but winning the Main Event is just something I never imagined would actually happen. But then again, we are going for the repeat in 2024.
