The PokerStars Women’s Winter Festival at London’s Hippodrome Casino was already shaping up to be a highlight of the UK poker season this fall - or ‘autumn’, as it’s known locally.
Now, in addition to the previously announced £400 Main Event (£100K GTD), players have the chance to make history in what may be the biggest women-only high roller poker tournament to date. That claim to fame may be debatable (if you know of a women-only event with a larger buy-in, let us know in the comments below), but what is certain is that the event will mark the first women-only high roller put on by PokerStars.
At £1,100 (approximately $1,434 at time of writing), the buy-in for the Women’s High Roller event edges out several events in the past that have run with ticket prices in the region of $1,000. The tourney is expected to attract some of the world’s top female players; Marle Spragg, Jen Shahade and Maria Lampropulos are among those who are anticipated to compete for the title. The event will kick off the festival, which runs from November 21-24.
“The Women’s Winter Festival is all about elevating the game for women and women’s participation in poker,” said Hippodrome Director of Poker and PokerStars ambassador Kerryjane Craigie, “The addition of the High Roller provides our players with more variety and more of the games they want to access.”
Online qualifiers for the Women’s Winter Festival Main Event are available now, including ‘freebuy’ tournaments, while a live £40 rebuy Main Event qualifier is scheduled for November 21, with an additional five seats added.
