Brian "True Geordie" Davis, the influential British podcaster and YouTuber, has bounced back into the online-poker world courtesy of a new deal with GGPoker. On Wednesday, GGPoker announced a new partnership with True Geordie, whose occasionally controversial commentary is part of what GGPoker describes as True Geordie's "larger-than-life" personality.
As part of the partnership with GGPoker, True Geordie is inviting his fans to join him on GGPoker on Thursday evenings in the UK for special tournaments with added prizes, including a bounty on True Geordie himself. The Thursday tourneys will run weekly through August 31, 2023.
The deal also includes True Geordie representing GGPoker at the WSOP's "Super Circuit" series in London. The series begins on July 27 and, according to a GGPoker presser, "will showcase his poker prowess in live tournaments, competing against top professionals and enthusiasts from all corners of the globe."
"We are absolutely delighted to work with the number-one poker brand in the world!” said True Geordie. “Our experience in creating marketing-leading content for blue chip brands will be used in full force during this incredibly exciting partnership. We can’t wait to face off against our vast and loyal community, utilising the ground-breaking online poker technology that GGPoker is celebrated for."
Other special events involving True Geordie and GGPoker are already in the works as well. GGPoker has already created a landing page for some of the special events and promotions involving its partnership with True Geordie.
It's a big rebound for Davis, a/k/a Geordie, who built his personal online brand beginning with enthusisatic online commentary about his hometown Newcastle football squad, then branched out into other topics, including boxing, which in turn brought him some high-profile commenting gigs.
True Geordie was also signed by PokerStars as a brand ambassador and online influencer, but PokerStars jettisoned him last November after True Geordie made Islamaphobic comments about another popular social-media personality, Andrew Tate, who had converted to Islam. True Geordie invited Tate to blow himself up, which led to his quick dumping by Stars.
GGPoker, in contrast, has shown a willingness to push the risk/reward balance to a greater extent regarding controversial personalities with the ability to attract large social-media audiences. That risk was never better illustrated than in GGPoker's ultimate-failed partnership with the infamous "King of Instagram," Dan Bilzerian, whose relationship with GGPoker crashed and burned after two tumultuous years.
GGPoker will be hoping that True Geordie can steer clear of the social mishaps that doomed Bilzerian's time as a brand ambassador. Angela Martin, UK & Ireland Head of Marketing at GGPoker, stated, "We are delighted to welcome Brian 'True Geordie' Davis to the GGPoker family. His exceptional talent and magnetic personality resonate with our commitment to providing an unparalleled poker experience to our players. We can't wait to see him engage with our vibrant community and bring his unique style to the tables."
