Angela Jordison has built a reputation for crushing it on all of the mid-major poker tours in the United States, and her results this weekend in Iowa will only go towards strengthening that argument.
Jordison won the MSPT Main Event at Grand Falls Casino in Larchwood, Iowa, outlasting a field of 513 entrants to win a first-place prize of $95,381. It was Jordison's second MSPT Main Event victory in the last seven months, following her career-best $161,513 win at MSPT Ameristar East Chicago.
She entered Sunday's final table as one of the two shortest stacks but fought her way back to victory.
“To come in short, it’s really something I’ve been working so much on lately, the ICM chops and these short stack situations really came into play here and it really helped me out," Jordison said shortly after her victory. "All that prep that I do off the felt, the stuff that seems to be really boring or worthless, really came in clutch here.”
Mid-major crusher
According to the MSPT's profile of Jordison, she now boasts six top-10 finishes and two victories in MSPT Main Events in just 17 total cashes in such tournaments. All told, Jordison has cashed for $463,714 on the MSPT.
Jordison first entered the poker spotlight back in 2015 when she rattled off three straight victories in the opening three events of the Poker Round Up series at Wildhorse Resort & Casino in her home state of Oregon.
She has nearly $800,000 in career WSOP earnings, including a pair of WSOP Circuit rings and multiple WSOP bracelet event final tables. Jordison was the runner-up in 2022 in two different GPI Player of the Year races - Mid-Major POY and Female POY.
A new era for the MSPT
Earlier this month, the MSPT announced an official rebrand for the long-running tour. Originally launched as the Minnesota State Poker Tour in 2009 and rebranded a few years later as the Mid-States Poker Tour.
In a press release sent out on March 16, the MSPT announced it would now be called the Major Series of Poker - The Tour. One of the biggest headlines coming out of this announcement was the adoption of five annual major events with a minimum $1 million guaranteed prize pool and additional benefits.
Other announcements attached to the MSPT's rebranding include a new MSPT Senior Tour for players over the age of 50 and new MSPT Hall of Fame benchmark requirements.
