The World Series of Poker’s long-awaited return to Las Vegas is finally right around the corner. Poker players around the world know that the WSOP’s tournament schedule isn’t the only reason why it’s great to be in Las Vegas when the series is running. Other local casinos run competing poker tournament series, and cash games all around town are far more lively with so many poker players in town. This year, cash game players will have the opportunity to enjoy a unique experience in the inaugural Cardplayer Lifestyle Mixed Game Festival.
This festival is targeted at an interesting niche of poker players; low-stakes players interested in playing mixed games. Low-stakes games outside of Limit Hold’em, No-Limit Hold’em, Pot Limit Omaha, and Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better are virtually inaccessible to most players. Brick-and-mortar locations generally do not deal the less popular mixed games, and even online in USA-facing poker sites, it’s quite rare to see an active game of something other than Hold’em or Omaha being played.
High-stakes mixed games are outside of the price range of many poker players and are not a very inviting atmosphere for beginners. Cardplayer Lifestyle Founder Robbie Strazynski is hoping to create exactly that with this event. “This is for folks who've always wanted to give mixed games a try but have been worried about playing too high,” Strazynski told us. “Our low-limit recreational atmosphere will be perfect for you to dip your toes in.”
This event is being held at the Westgate Las Vegas Resort and Casino from October 4th through October 7th. Low-stakes Dealer’s Choice cash games will run for the first three days of the festival, and on the final day there will be a $200 H.O.R.S.E. tournament that kicks off at noon.
PokerStars sweetens the pot with a Platinum Pass
Strazynski reached out to PokerStars to see if they would be interested in sponsoring the event. PokerStars decided to support the initiative by offering a Platinum Pass to the PokerStars Players Championship, which will be awarded to the winner of the $200 H.O.R.S.E. tournament.
This Platinum Pass is valued at roughly $30,000. It includes a $25,000 buy-in into the next PokerStars Players No Limit Hold’em Championship, hotel accommodation, and coverage of other expenses. This is an incredible addition to a $200 tournament and one that should generate a lot of additional interest in the festival.
