The Global Poker Index dropped its annual list of nominations for February's Global Poker Awards and Caitlin Comeskey leads the list of nominees with four nods, while Marle Spragg and Joe Stapleton each earned three.
Comeskey, a two-time winner, is up for Best X Personality, Best Short-Form Content Creator, Best Short-Form Video, and Most Entertaining Player, a People's Choice public vote. Comeskey was the Rising Star in Content Creation in 2022 and she won the award for Short-Form Content creator last year.
Spragg, Stapleton lead the rest
Also gathering multiple nominations were Spragg and Stapleton, each with three. Stapleton is up for his podcast, Poker in the Ears, along with co-host James Hartigan, and his book Trapped, a graphic novel released in late 2024. Spragg earned nods for Best X Personality, Short-Form Content Creator, and Short-Form Video.
Other double-nominees include Barny Boatman, for Best Hand and Best Final Table Performance, and Nikki Limo for Short-Form Content Creator and Short-Form Video. Abby Merk, David Lappin, Dara O'Kearney, Barry Carter, and Daniel Negreanu are also nominated in two categories.
Herring, Willis rep PokerOrg
PokerOrg is represented twice in the Best Journalist category, with industry veterans Sarah Herring and Brad Willis competing for the honor against Nick Jones and David Lappin.
Also nominated from PokerOrg's breakout year was Paul Oresteen's interview with Ari Engel. Oresteen is up for the Best Written Content honor against Poker Pro's Jonathan Raab, WPT's Lance Bradley, and Connor Richards from PokerNews.
Breakout players and big performances
Rania Nasreddine is up for her first GPI award for Breakout Player, a category previously won by the likes of Ali Imsirovic, Jan Arends, and Johan Guilbert. Her fellow nominees are Mark Travis Egbert, Noel Rodriguez, and Boris Anzhelov Angelov. Egbert won the $25K WPT Alpha in December in a year where he also earned two WSOP Circuit Main Event rings.
Rodriguez, who was third in the $25K WPT Alpha, also had two runner-up finishes at the 2024 WSOP, including a second-place run in the $25K High Roller for $1.1 million. Angelov finished fifth in the 2024 WSOP Main Event and second in the EPT Main Event at Monte Carlo, in addition to a victory at EPT Barcelona.
The Global Poker Awards will be broadcast live from the PokerGO Studios on Saturday, February 22. The show will also honor GPI's Player of the Year David Coleman, Mid-Major Player of the Year Han Feng, Female Player of the Year Cherish Andrews, PGT's Player of the Year Jeremy Ausmus, and Jesse Lonis for having the most weeks at #1 in 2024.
