A 24-year-old Florida man faces multiple charges after an attempted armed robbery outside a Port St. Lucie poker room where the loot sought wasn't money but just an article of clothing.
Dylan Avery Orlando was arrested Monday afternoon by a SWAT team, over a half day after Orlando had attempted, with gun in hand, to rob another player of a blue hat they were wearing at a table inside the Card House Port St. Lucie.
As a result, Orlando now faces charges of attempted robbery with a weapon, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, resisting an officer without violence, reckless driving, and driving with license suspended.
'I'm going to hurt somebody tonight'
According to a Facebook post from the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Department, the incident involving the gun took place at about 2am Monday morning. Orlando repeatedly demanded the cap from the other player, which led to him arguing with several other players at the table. "I'm going to hurt somebody tonight," he reportedly said, according to an update from the TC Palm.
When the hat-owning player decided to leave for the night, Orlando allegedly followed him outside and brandished the weapon, again demanding the hat. Meanwhile, the police had been called, and Orlando then fled the scene, evading the arriving officers.
However, the sheriff's department was able to obtain the license plate of Orlando's car, enabling them to identify him as the gun-flourishing suspect. That led to an arrest warrant and the activation of the SWAT team to arrest Orlando at his apartment in nearby Fort Pierce (shown above). Orlando was taken into custody without further incident.
