Biggest tournament series in 888poker history wraps up with $1 million guaranteed tournament
The biggest online tournament series in the history of 888poker culminates this weekend, as the 888Millions SuperStorm Main Event plays out on the 888 international poker client.
The $320 buy-in tournament guarantees a $1 million prize pool, with Day 2 of the Main Event commencing on Sunday. Day 2 sees the Main Event play down to a champion, and that eventual winner will collect one of the biggest first-place prizes in the nearly two-decade history of 888poker.
The 888poker Millions SuperStorm has played out over the past month as the biggest online tournament series in the history of the platform. The series offered a whopping 480 different events, guaranteeing $8 million across the event.
Both that $8 million guarantee and the 480 tournaments set record marks for 888poker, which ran its biggest-ever series in the midst of a boom period for online poker.
The four previous Sundays leading up to the Oct. 11 Main Event each offered a $215 buy-in, $100,000 guaranteed Sunday Special tournament. Here’s a look at how the Sunday Special events have unfolded so far:
Sunday Special 1 (September 13)
A total of 402 entries turned out for the first Sunday Special of the 888Millions SuperStorm series, presenting players with an overlay as the prize pool stayed at the $100,000 guarantee.
The top three finishers each took home five figures for the one-day event. After nine hours of battle, Uruguay’s Fabrizio ‘DrMiKee’ Gonzalez took down the championship for a $19,350 payout.
Other top finishers included a pair of Canadian players in ‘alexkoab05’ (2nd - $14,500) and ‘algsxr’ (3rd - $11,000).
Sunday Special 2 (September 20)
The second week of the Sunday Special saw a bit of a drop off in registration, with 355 entries coming out and the prize pool again staying at $100,000.
The tournament finished up in around eight hours, with the first-place prize of $19,350 on the line. After a heads-up deal at the final table, however, the top two finishers ended up with relatively even payouts.
Romanian ‘777ibi’ took down the win for the biggest share of the prize money, taking home $17,186 in the process. Other top finishers included the UK’s ‘petersmyth’ (2nd - $16,662) and Taiwan’s ‘corner130’ (3rd - $ 11,000).
Sunday Special 3 (September 27)
The third of four Sunday Special tournaments got closer to surpassing the guarantee, with 458 entries. The prize pool still stayed at $100,000 for the third straight week, however.
The top three payout amounts also remained intact, with Ukraine’s ‘yarik1903’ coming away with the win and the $19,350 payday.
Rounding out the top three were Germany’s ‘Holdababy’ (2nd -$14,500) and player ‘WestCliff26’ (3rd - $11,000), whose country of origin is unknown.
Sunday Special 4 (October 4)
The fourth and final Sunday Special saw the biggest turnout yet, with 486 entries registering. Four different players came away with five-figure paydays, per the terms of a four-way deal at the final table.
New Zealand’s ‘TheMufinMan’ emerged victorious, taking home $14,009. The top four finishers also included ‘mieux90’ (2nd - $12,168), ‘IamBudha’ (3rd - $11,414) and Aaron ‘YoureMagical’ Gustavon from the U.S. (4th - $13,899).
