The highest of high rolling events at the Triton London Series, the three-day $250k Luxon Invitational, has begun, morphing from two separated tournaments for VIPs and their invited pros into one field of highly competitive poker players vying for a piece of a vast prize pool.
That prize pool currently stands at over $28,000,000, with late registration officially open until 1pm tomorrow (10th August) when cards return to the air for Day 2.
Tight at the top
Leading the Day 1 survivors is Sean Perry with 1,734,000 chips (217 big blinds). He topped the chip counts before the dinner break and was still there when bagging time rolled around, although just a single big blind away is Alfred DeCarolis with 1,730,000. There’s more than a starting stack’s gap between these top two and Christoph Vogelsang lying in third (1,364,000); the average stack is 507,000.
Perry, who told Tiffany Michelle at the start of the day that the idea was to “gamble the first bullet” has been unfazed by sticking to the plan, rising to the top of the field on his second buy-in. It is not surprising that Perry has found his niche in the poker world, his father being WSOP bracelet winner Ralph Perry; his success in the world of sports betting parallels his fearlessness at the felt.
The elite of the international poker world’s enthusiasts and professionals have come to London to take part in this event, and to list a who’s-who would involve writing out the names of all 115 entrants. However, to pick just a few returning tomorrow: eight-time Triton title winner Jason Koon, US heavyweights Phil Ivey, Bryn Kenney, Sean Winter and Dan Smith, WSOP Main Event champions Chris Moneymaker and Espen Jørstad, and last night’s winner in the $200k NLH 8-Handed event David Yan.
