On March 3, Doug Polk launched his Code Doug $100K Challenge on ClubWPT Gold – pitting himself against all comers in a heads-up battle with the dual-pronged goal of winning (and then giving away) $100,000 over the course of a single month and enticing as many viewers as possible into creating accounts and depositing money on the site.
If Polk reaches the $100,000 mark, any player who registered for ClubWPT Gold using 'Code Doug' will take home a slice of his winnings. If he fails, well, there are consequences for that too.
In a video posted on X, Polk said, "If I end this challenge down money... I'm going to put up a poll... on whether I should either shave my head or dye my hair platinum blonde."
If he does end up losing, we're relying on the audience out there to do the right thing.
Swimming with the fishes
It's the latest twist in a challenge that has been thoroughly entertaining, if not profitable for Polk, who currently finds himself $29,410 in the hole.
Today is a day off after 14 straight days of streaming. When Polk returns, he may have a shot at winning it all back thanks to a potential showdown with Eric Persson.
There's no official confirmation of a match between the two of them yet, but Persson's needling on X didn't go down well with Polk. Could it lead to his highest-profile challenger to date stepping into the virtual ring?
Persson pokes the Polk
PokerOrg reached out to Persson for comment on the potential matchup and he sent a needle back Doug's way.
"It's fun to pile on Doug as he tries to relive his glory days of the past," Persson said. "Hopefully, if he hustles really, really hard, he will earn enough referrals from his 'Code Doug' to offset his massive losses."
While Persson's level of online savvy remains unclear, he's not one to back away from a challenge. Polk, for that matter, doesn't back down easily either and, as the days tick on, he may need to up the stakes if he wants to turn around his losses and hit the $100,000 mark.
We would love to see them duel it out on ClubWPT Gold but we're not 100% sure it's a serious challenge yet or that Polk will accept.
Doug Polk will be back at it tomorrow and you can watch all his remaining streams as they happen on his YouTube channel.
