Brian Altman captures fifth WSOP Circuit ring

Brian Altman Brian Altman

The Event Center at the Turning Stone Resort and Casino was nearly empty as just a few staff remained in the building, and after a long day at the poker table, Brian Altman captured his fifth WSOP Circuit ring, the $73,717 first-place prize and a seat into the Tournament of Champions.

"It feels great, it's nice to win one of these smaller field WSOP Circuit events," Altman said immediately following the win. "The play is pretty deep, which I like, and it's a great structure. The final table was deep. I got to take my time and pick my spots."

The final table began at roughly 7:30 p.m. on the final day of the series, and because of the deep play, it took five hours for Altman to whittle down his opponents before closing the tournament out in dramatic fashion.

With a board reading , Altman faced an all-in for 815,000 from Charles Alex-Barton and went into the tank. The tank wasn't anywhere as long as Michael Aman's on the same stage hours earlier, and after about 30 seconds, Altman called.

Alex-Barton tabled for just jack-high, and when Altman tabled for a pair of ducks, he sent Alex-Barton to the rail in second place for $48,168.

In a final table that featured multiple WSOP hardware winners, Altman also outlasted bracelet winner Christian Roberts (3rd for $32,474), Event #2 and three-time ring winner Jacob Hamed (6th for $12,128), fellow five-time ring winner David Kuder (7th for $9,366) and two-time ring winner Patrick White (9th for $6,250).

Seunghyun Nam entered day two of the high roller with the chip lead and started the final table with the lead holding over a million before falling in fourth place for $22,611.

Sam Journeay (5th for $16,277) topped his previous career-best score of $14,791, and Kaiwen Wei (8th for $7,505) round out the payouts for the final table.
