On Monday afternoon, Christopher Cochran of Ringgold, GA took down the Southern Indiana Main Event for just over a six figure score after the final day returned with just three players.
It is the second ring of Cochran's career and second of the year with the first coming in Cherokee in February. That ring win for just over $21,000 had been the largest of his career... until today where he increased that best score by five-fold.
Due to the aforementioned medical emergency, unfortunately the exact action of Cochran''s victory was not captured but it appears to be quite the story regardless.
Cochran began Day 2 as the 26th largest stack out of 31 players left and looked to be going out the door several times early on that day. But he was able to build up and make his way down to the final table as action went very quickly with the final nine being reached before dinner. The big start of day chip leader Cameron Payne would bow out in seventh place. Proceedings would then really slow down at five handed play as there were five left for about three hours as the players battled it out with several chip swings.
Eventually the day would end with just Cochran, Dan Hummer and Jesse Williams as the last remaining players. Hummer has been the chip leader for much of the five-handed play marathon as he was seeking his first bracelet after having a plethora of cashes in his WSOP career. But Cochran was able to overcome him heads up to clinch the ring here in Southern Indiana.
