If a guy can win a worldwide poker championship based on chips, it should be no surprise he could also take down a contest involving tortillas, even if he was facing a man named “Nacho.”
WSOP Main Event champion Espen Jørstad met Jose “Nacho” Barbero in the finals of the first-ever Tortilla Slap-ellite today in Cyprus. The two men outlasted Tony G, Rob Yong, and Phil Nagy in the $25,000 contest. Faraz Jaka, originally scheduled to be among the contestants, had a scheduling conflict and was unavailable to be slapped in the face with food today.
Delayed from Saturday to accommodate late entries, the Luxon Pay Mediterranean Poker Party $25,000 MPP Tortilla Slap-ellite Challenge was originally slated for Saturday. After finalizing the field, organizers set the event for today and promised a $25,000 tournament entry.
Our private book had Nacho conservatively at -110, if only because the headlines would have written themselves. Other books suggested Tony G might've had the edge as he entered the contest just minutes after winning the $10,000 MPP NLHE High Roller.
Instead, Jørstad proved himself yet again a champion. You can watch every floury second of the battle in the video below.
