Mentorship Mental and emotional support is key in this game, as is expert guidance in terms of what to focus on your path into the game. Knowing what to look for and how to build on study and play is a crucial developmental marker. I would love to see the creation of an international mentorship program aimed to support and guide new female players. It’s not a bootcamp, but rather a global program in which pros would commit to meeting with mentees who could ask any questions in private and be guided on their path into the game. 1:1 30-minute sessions once a month could be game-changing for some. Ideally it would be a bona fide program, but it would also be a low-cost, high-yield opportunity for a big brand poker platform. They may just be helping create the next rising stars.
Access The disposable income women have is significantly lower than that of men. It limits their ability to pay entry fees and play. Propose to add more entry level buy-ins that are affordable and that have guaranteed prize pools and good structures. Often the women’s tournaments lack two, if not all three, of these points. What I would love to see more of is satellites to full packages for women to help give them the opportunity to attend international, big competitions.
Visibility It’s encouraging to see that poker media is highlighting more women in their coverage. I would pivot a little and look to showcasing more non-pro players and their achievements. It will be motivating to new and recreational players who are looking to enter the game but may be worried sustained success is tied to being a full-time pro.
