I’ve drank at the Ghost Donkey at Cosmo, I’ve stuffed my face and spent many buy-is at Javier’s At the Aria. I’ve had as many street tacos as I’ve been handed fliers from the fluorescent-vested men on The Strip offering companionship by the hour. But when I’m in the mood for some Mexican food, there is always one place at the top of my list: Bonita Michoacan at Twain and Decatur (3715 S. Decatur Blvd).
Yeah, yeah, yeah, that’s probably more Tex-Mex than it is Mexican, but I’m not here for an argument. If you’re anywhere north of the USA’s southern border, you’re almost always going to get Tex-Mex, California-Mex, or some other variation of the same food most Americans have grown up knowing as Mexican food.
Regardless, here's why Bonita Michoacan is my go-to when I need a steaming plate of tacos, rice, and beans. It’s only a 5-7 minute drive or ride from The Strip, the service is excellent, even when the place is packed, and you’re going to walk out with money left to spend somewhere else – if you can manage to avoid the big siesta you’re going to need to take when you’re finished eating.
Pro tip: if you are going to be responsible for anything or anyone other than yourself after your meal, go easy on the drinks. However, if you have a night in which you can abandon all good sense and reason, order the biggest Cadillac Margarita they have before you order water. You can thank or sue me later.
